You don't need an Independent Counsel and a stained cocktail dress to get the truth out of me - I didn't write these strips, I didn't draw them, I didn't design them. My input here is limited strictly to scanning, cleaning, and re-coloring. Well, OK, I took the artwork on this index page from Hembeck's 'Fantastic Four Roast', published by Marvel Comics in 1982, re-arranged them, and added new text, but that's all, I swear!

The commentaries are all mine, though, with occasional contributions from people just like you! So, don't be afraid to send me feedback!

The copyrights, trademarks and publication rights to the artwork on this site (as opposed to the site design and commentaries - those are mine) belong to DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and
Fred Hembeck where appropriate. I make no claim to them, and I hope the holders of those rights see this site for what it is - a gesture of appreciation on behalf of the ten-year-old kid I used to be when Fred began these off-beat adventures in the Amazing World of DC Comics!

Happy New Year, everybody! Now go celebrate by visiting Fred's brand-spankin'-new sanctum sanctorum at www.hembeck.com!!!

Update - November 19, 2002

This isn't a new strip, but Bob Rozakis got in touch to answer the question of what he's been doing with his life since leaving DC four years ago. Make with the clicking for details!

Update - August 13, 2002

Ah, well. New Year's resolutions are made to be broken, right? Here's the new batch, only six weeks later than I'd originally planned for. I blame the birthday celebrations.

Update - June 3, 2002

Happy Golden Jubilee, Your Majesty!

Update - May 2, 2002

A day late with new strips, but more words than usual to make up for it. Congrats to Bob Greenberger, too, on his return to DC as a Senior Editor!

Update - April 1, 2002

April Fool's Day! Here's another batch of Hembeck silliness to mark the occasion.

Update - March 1, 2002

Sad news, folks - Chuck Jones passed away a few days ago, so I'm leading this batch with a tribute. The other three pages have four more Hembeck strips, plus a sampling of email from people just like you.

Update - February 6, 2002

Something a little different today...

Update - February 1, 2002

New strips, on time, on budget!

Update - January 1, 2002

Happy New Year, everyone!

In keeping with current events, we're ringing in the new year with The Unknown Soldier, along with Green Arrow, The Vigilante, and the staff of the Daily Planet newsroom. Great googaly moogaly! (Okay, so I've been on a Liberty Meadows kick lately.)

Update - November 11, 2000

A special Remembrance Day update, with Sgt. Rock and Easy Company

Update - October 13, 2000

So much for my birthday resolution to turn these out more frequently. It's amazing how real life can get in the way of the really important things, isn't it? Sigh. Seven new pages, with eight new strips.

Update - Aug. 16, 2000

Cool your jets. The next batch isn't quite ready yet (they're simmering nicely, though), but Fred's 'Fred Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe' title is the current pick of the week at The Comic Vault, and this li'l ol' site is the associated web site pick! Thanks, Michael!

Update - June 25, 2000

Wow. Monster update. 12 new strips, 9 new pages, and other new decorations. Plus, the requisite 3,947 complaints have poured in to warrant an addendum regarding the mysterious omission of the Detective Chimp from the Enemy Ace page.

Update - April 30, 2000

You know the drill. Six more strips, way overdue. Sigh.

Update - January 28, 2000

Happy New Year!

Six new strips, including a double shot of the Atom!

Update - December 18, 1999

Dagnabbit. Where does the time go?

Oh, well.

Just in time for Christmas, it's time to pay homage to that great unsung series from the seventies, The Secret Society of Super-Villains! Among this batch of strips, you'll find such evil-doers as The Joker, Two-Face, Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and leading the pack, The Mirror Master!

Plus, here's a little Christmas cheer for those of you who have been wondering whether I'd ever get this thing on some kind of regular schedule: the next four strips are already coloured and ready to go! All that's left is writing the commentaries for them.

Happy Holidays, everybody!

Update - September 16, 1999

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner in my 'Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon' Enemy Ace challenge!

Patrick Thomas of Rockwood, PA, successfully connected Enemy Ace to Gorilla Grodd using just a single intermediary - Swamp Thing!

Update - September 15, 1999

Next batch, ready to go! There's a couple of challenges buried in the write-ups, so it's time to warm up your imaginations. (The things I do to amuse myself...)

Update - August 2, 1999

Hello again! Once more into the breach, this time leading off with a request. Always glad to oblige, and, ever looking for an excuse to solicit more feedback, y'all should feel free to wish me a slightly belated happy birthday!

Update - June 15, 1999

Ouch. I'm way overdue, aren't I? I'm sorry to have kept you waiting for your next dose of Fred. No excuses, no justifications, just my apologies.

Here's four more strips.

Thanks go out to David Potts for sending me a note on the site; David also pointed out a coloring mistake on the Superman Family strip, which I will correct post haste. (Watch Supergirl's skirt change from blue to red! Amaze your friends!)

Update - March 21, 1999

Four more strips!

Update - March 3, 1999

Holy re-design, Batman! Due to popular demand, I've dropped the frames, and restructured the strips pages to be a little more friendly to people running their systems at low resolutions. I think this one's a keeper.

Update - March 1, 1999

Four more strips! I'll be picking up the pace (hopefully) in anticipation of an event in the works for April, too, so make sure you check back in a couple of weeks.

Update - January 17, 1999

I apologize for the delay in adding new strips to these pages; I realize that the schedule I announced - four per month - is completely blown.

Wait a minute....maybe I'm just channeling the spirit of an old Image comic book. (Bwaa-ha-ha-ha...)

On the good news side, look for new additions very soon, in addition to the redesign you're already looking at. I've opted for frames in order to make the site a little easier to manage, particularly since the list of strips has grown from my original estimate of 41 to over 100!

Major thanks to Fred Hembeck, by the way; he's sent me b&w copies of his original artwork, which will make things go much faster.
